Senior Backend TypeScript Engineer – £80,000 + Up to 30% Bonus + Generous Pension

Location: London (1 day per week onsite)
Division: Retail – working on mobile and web products

The Role

You'll be part of a collaborative engineering team building backend‑led solutions while contributing to web and mobile products. You’ll work on TypeScript‑based microservices, shape technical decisions, improve engineering practices, and ensure the delivery of resilient, high‑quality software.

Key Skills Needed (Core Requirements)

Backend-focused with strong frontend awareness:

• Backend TypeScript (expert level)
• Strong understanding of React and modern frontend fundamentals
• Clean Coding & Clean Architecture principles
• TDD and strong familiarity with the testing pyramid
• Microservices development (REST APIs, Node.js or similar)
• CI/CD pipelines and Git/GitFlow
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly justify technical decisions

Nice to Have (Bonus Skills)

• React Native experience
• AWS Cloud Services
• Docker
• Exposure to mobile architecture patterns (MVP, MVVM, Flux)
• Experience with Redux, Kafka, or NestJS

What You’ll Be Doing

• Building clean, maintainable backend features
• Contributing to mobile and web product development
• Solving complex technical challenges end‑to‑end
• Participating in code reviews and promoting engineering best practice
• Helping shape architecture, tooling, and team processes
• Mentoring and supporting other engineers
• Continuously improving performance, security, and reliability across services
